That shift has brought students, staff and a wider mix of professional services into the area, alongside the cafés, medical practices and trades that were already here well before the campus existed. Business cards, brochures and banners get ordered for all sorts of reasons now, from a new café opening near campus to a local trade business simply trying to stand out in a suburb with a lot more competition than it used to have.

Petrie Railway Station keeps the suburb well connected for commuters, and that connectivity has helped local businesses grow beyond just servicing Petrie itself. Schools, sporting clubs and community organisations continue to need flyers, certificates, booklets and banners for events and fundraisers throughout the year, university or no university.

It’s an interesting mix to print for, honestly. Student-facing material tends to want something a bit more current and casual, while the older, established businesses nearby often prefer to stick with a more traditional look. We end up producing quite different styles of work for customers who are, in some cases, only a few hundred metres apart.

We also get a noticeable spike in orders around semester changeovers, when campus-adjacent businesses want fresh promotional material timed to new student intakes. It’s one of the more predictable patterns we’ve picked up on in Petrie specifically.
